Understandable many people may question whether or not the Ibotta app really works. Buy items, scan a receipt, and receive cash. Is it a scam? What’s the catch?
In short, there is no trick. Yes it works.
Interestingly, no one questions whether or not paper coupons are a scam (actually, sometimes they can be a scam, but that’s a whole different story). Food companies and stores often offer a variety of discounts, coupon, and deals to encourage shoppers to buy specific items or shop at their store. CVS for example regularly offers free ExtraBucks (CVS in-store money) or 25% off coupons. Food and household item manufacturers like Proctor & Gamble, General Mills and others also will offer a few quarters to a few dollars off an item to encourage brand loyalty and its sale.
Ibotta taps into both of these networks. By partnering with a number of brands and retail stores they can offer deals on a variety of products at over 75,000 locations in the USA. Many of the offers in Ibotta are unique to the app and only available to it’s users. For those that shop for the items featured earning $.25-$3.00 back for each purchase is a great opportunity to save money. And, although there are many junk food items, Ibotta’s partnership with Whole Foods means even the health conscious consumers have something to choose from.
It Works and Then Some
Over $3 million have been returned to shoppers by Ibotta so far. And, the best part, is that Ibotta doesn’t care if shoppers use store or manufacturer’s coupons as well. Say there’s a $3.00 drink on sale at CVS and Rite Aid. The drink’s maker has a $1.00 off coupon, CVS has a 50% off deal, and Ibotta has a $.75 offer. Users can combine all three and make money! $3.00 x 50% = $1.50 – $1.00 coupon = $.50. Pay $.50 for the drink, then make $.75 with the Ibotta offer for a $.25 profit.
